Defrost and PTC Cartridge Evaporation Heating Elements

Defrost Heating Elements (Defrosting)

Defrost Heaters are electric heating elements designed to melt ice and frost that accumulate on the evaporator coils in refrigeration and freezing equipment.

Depending on the design of the evaporator unit, they typically operate on 110V–120V or 220V–240V single-phase power.

For defrost rod heating elements with an 8.2 mm diameter tube, production is carried out at an average of 500 W/m at 230 V. Defrost heating elements are manufactured from 304-grade corrosion-resistant stainless steel tubing to withstand continuous condensation and exposure to chemical refrigerants.

To prevent moisture ingress during freeze-thaw cycles, the connection points feature hot-pressed, waterproof rubber-silicone caps.

They can be manufactured in various forms, such as straight rods, double rods, U-shaped rods, and flanged rods.

PTC Evaporation Cartridge Heaters

What Is PTC?

Literally, PTC stands for Positive Temperature Coefficient.(Positive Temperature Coefficient)

PTC ceramics are a special type of semiconductor material whose electrical resistance increases as the temperature rises.

PTC cartridge heaters are used as evaporator heating elements in industrial refrigerators.

When the outer sheath comes into contact with liquid or cold moisture, the electrical resistance of the PTC ceramics inside the tube decreases, and the heating element begins to heat up.

As the outer tube sheath heats up, the resistance of the PTCs increases, power drops, and heating stops.

It does not require an additional thermostat. As the temperature rises, resistance increases, causing the current to drop.

This prevents the outer pipe jacket from overheating; it does not require an additional thermostat and maintains a constant temperature.

The PTC ceramics inside the pipe self-regulate based on temperature.

Since there is no risk of overheating, it is safe and energy-efficient.
